a day in my life as an au pair | september 2016
I've decided to add a new series to my blog called 'a day in my life as an au pair' to give you guys a little more of an insight into my daily life. I blog pretty much everything about my travels here, especially all the exciting stuff I've been doing while working and living in France, but those happen mostly on my days off so really you have no idea what I'm up to the rest of the week. And no, unlike what social media portrays I'm not always out in a new village exploring the little alleyways every single day... I am technically working. So here I'll be sharing a typical day of what I get up to at least once a week. My first post is starting with a Monday and what I got up to (and yes I know it doesn't look like much work and it isn't a day off, but thats the beauty of doing a working holiday isn't it?)
7.30 - 8.15 am : wake up with the sound of children, or lucky for me today with the eldest child walking into my room to wake me up (keep in mind he is four years old). Get out of bed and remain in my PJ's to help the children with their breakfast, clothes and getting ready for school before their parents take them to school.
10.30 - 11.30 am : bike ride! Not a typical thing for me every Monday, but it was my first bike ride out and I had a little pack with me to go exploring the areas. It was actually a really good solid hour workout and I took my camera along to take photos of the cute little farms and countryside. Also, I take no credit for this being my idea, the parents prepared me a little pack to go out and get some air because the children were making me go crazy the two previous days (the weekends are the worst!)
12 - 12.30 pm : picking up the youngest child from school, this happens every Monday. I walk from home to school, which takes about 25 minutes and half of it is along the river bed which I love!
1.30 - 2 pm : lunch at home with my au pair family
3 - 4 pm : play time! The youngest child is at home in the afternoon and it is my job to look after him, which includes lots of playing!
4.30 - 6 pm : I had late afternoon off, so I spent it wandering around the village, I went to the tourism office, grabbed some afternoon tea and took a leisurely stroll back home where I sat down on a bench by the river and enjoyed my 'palmier' and listened to some music. This is one of my favourite pastimes to relax, just to sit on a bench in a park and read or listen to music... I do it quite regularly.
6.30 -7.30 pm : cook the children's dinner, feed and shower them and general supervision before they go to bed.
7.30 - 8.30 pm : making dinner for the adults, now this isn't one of my tasks that I'm required to do, but I love cooking so much that I tend to do it a few times a week. Plus it unwinds me after a hectic day with the children!
9 pm - onwards : bed time! watch a little 'Elementary' on netflix before dozing off.
Now, this was just my particular Monday, it does change and vary quite a bit day to day. But keep posted if you want to see more details into my everyday life.
