A Wicked Camper in the Atacama Desert
Date: 17 January – 22 January 2016
Location: San Pedro de Atacama and the surrounding desert regions
Note: This part of my trip I'm not travelling alone, I got to meet up with Papa! We are travelling together for the rest of my time in South America.
We set out to go to the Atacama desert, the driest place on earth (apart from Antartica) in a camper van. We hired out a ‘Wicked’ camper in San Pedro de Atacama, which became our base town and drove around to all the places on our little bucket list.
I am writing up individual blog posts for each of the noteworthy places that we visited, all with photos of course - one blog post would be too long and messy to read.
Here is a quick little peak at what the main town around our attractions looked like. We never camped in the town but we did often eat meals here in the restaurants and do a quick food shop.
We liked the vibe in San Pedro. It was super super relaxed and chill… It reminded us of Provence in France. It was obviously a tourist town because of the way the shops and tour agencies had been set up and there were a lot of tourists around. None Australian though… But we did meet a LOT of French. We did spend 5 days in a camper van, so we did get to know one café in town quite well. It was a cute place in the main plaza and we sat outside in the shade overlooking the trees and all the cute dogs sleeping and playing. We found ourselves there on a few occasions relaxing for a few hours with fresh juices and chatting away.
More to come on the rest of the amazing sites in the desert!
