Berlin bagel bookshop
restaurant review | Berlin, Germany
Shakespeare and Sons is a cute little bookstore / bagel store / cafe situated in Berlin that I went out of my way to find. I had read about it on a blog somewhere and decided that this would be the cafe that I would try out for one of my lunches. Of course the day I decided to go it was raining... and I ended up walking, taking a bus and a tram to get there... it was a bit of an adventure. So when I finally got there I was happy to sit down and enjoy my fresh bagel indoors. The place has such a cool vibe to it, it was clear that a lot of students came here to study and work, there were young people left, right and centre with their laptops working away surrounded by books. There were also english books too, which was great for me to be able to browse for a while. I ordered "the goat" which was goats cheese, avocado and tomato, but to be honest I could have eaten any of the choices on the menu. You get to pick the bagel bread and then what type of filling you want inside - just yum! The best thing is that they make it all fresh - made to order. So at least you know it hasn't been sitting there for hours at the counter. If I ever lived close by, or in Berlin at all... I could easily see myself becoming one of the student regulars with my laptop or a good book and a bagel in hand... it is just so my style. Food and books... what can go wrong?
