the best fro-yo in Aix-en-Provence
As you most probably already know, I love frozen yoghurt and I am always on the hunt for some when I'm feeling like a fresh pick-me-up afternoon tea. In fact, I've already blogged about my favourite fro-yo in Berlin, so it was only right to do so in one of my favourite towns in the south of France: Aix-en-Provence. This place caught my attention from my first visit (although I didn't go in the first time - something I regret!). It is situated in the old part of Aix, but it is so modern and cool and just something you want to go and see... I mean maybe if it were in London or Sydney it might seem slightly less impressive amongst all the other hip and cool stores. But placed in an old part of town in France, somewhere where fro-yo is not a common thing, it just took my attention suddenly!
I didn't buy any on my first visit to Aix, but on my second and third I made sure to go in to treat myself for afternoon tea. And I am not kidding when I say that 'California Bliss' does the best natural frozen yoghurt! I'm talking about the yoghurt itself... it was amazing, probably the best I've had. It didn't just melt in your cup after 2 minutes, it was thick and creamy in texture (without it being 'creamy', if that makes sense?). Just thinking about it is making me hungry for some!
Both times I went simple with my toppings, partially because I've learnt that less is more when it comes to fro-yo (I love the actual yoghurt part, not just the toppings), but also partially because they made you pay for each topping... which I don't like so much. It can get expensive very quickly... especially as a backpacker on a budget! But they do give you loyalty cards and a wristband type thing that allows you to have a free topping every time you come in, so that is a cool concept too. And if you check out their website a lot of the money goes towards a charity, so really at the end of the day even if you are paying a little more than what you usually would, the extra money is going somewhere good. PLUS it is the best fro-yo ever!!
I had natural yoghurt with the roasted nuts on top. Something I would highly recommend!! So if you are ever in Aix-en-Provence (which is not everyday for most of you I'm sure), you just HAVE to try a fro-yo from 'California Bliss'.
