Wandering the streets of London
I spent a total of one week in London and loved every minute of it (okay, well maybe not when I nearly missed the Eurostar… but that’s another story!). I didn’t go into London with a huge planned agenda, I decided to just ‘wing it’ and plan day by day which for the most part turned out great! I actually found it great because I had nowhere to be at specific times so I could just wander the streets as casually as I pleased. Which for me was great as I got lost very 5 minutes… I’m pretty sure I walked half of London most days, purely from getting lost! I actually came across most of the touristy attractions without looking for them and the only thing I’d mastered was the underground system. But better than nothing right? In my first blog most of this trip, of what I’m sure will be many to come, I’m sharing with you some of my favourite streets and areas that I visited in my time in London.
I happened to be here during a pretty cool weekend, where West End Live was playing! This is basically a free festival / event where most of the current performances / musicals playing on West End perform snippets of their show so it was a great way to see lots of the shows without paying to go see them. Although I did the next day go and see Jersey Boys (which I would highly recommend).
Another popular site worth seeing when your in London, even if you don't get right up and personal you can see it from pretty far away and it's a great backdrop to any photo too!
This was a cute little discovery all because of a cake shop… I read on a blog somewhere about this little cake and cupcake shop that sold the yummiest treats and I thought I should pay it a visit. I mean, I got seriously lost in the process but once I got there is was worth it! Its actually not very ar from Oxford and Regent street and it's in this little alleyway that is super cute! You should go for two reasons, firstly the alleyways are worth a wander through and secondly this shop had the best cupcakes ever! Its called Crumbs and Doilies if anyone is interested. It was so good I went back twice…
I love this area! There are so many side streets and alleyways to keep you entertained for hours with so much to do and see and photograph. It for sure has to be one of my favourite areas in London.
Oxford & Regent Street
Now this one is a must! I love both of these streets, not only are they busy and bustling with people and are as equally as beautiful, but they have all the best shops on them! It's just a great way to spend a morning, or an afternoon… or both? There is enough to do, or enough shops to go in to last for hours. A personal favourite of mine is Hamely’s, the toy shop. It's a must for everyone!
This whole area is of course on the main tourist attractions but it’s still pretty cool to go see it in person!
Charles I Statue
This is a great central point, literally. Standing in the middle where the statue is gives you so many options and so many different directions to go. Plus, its right next to Trafalgar Square.
The Household Cavalry Museum
I really love coming here, it's the second time I've visited and I always love it, obviously because of the horses! But it is beautiful too and if you're lucky to come at the right time you can see the 'horse guards parade' which is a fun thing to see.
No need to explain why this is a place to visit! This time I didn't spend long at all at the palace, it was more the walk in the surrounding areas that I enjoyed.
This iconic shop is always a fun experience, and for me it’s all about the food hall. There are so many stalls of different types of food that I can never decide what to have. I actually went there twice for lunch! The first time because of the novelty of it and the second, well, because the food was actually really good!
This photo doesn’t really do it justice, but it is hard to take a photo of such highly populated area. I actually went back a couple of times, I just loved the vibe of the place and wandering around all the shops and cafes. One of my favourite shops was Brandy Melville, super cute clothes! And I even had the restraint not to buy anything, like a true backpacker on a budget!
