publication design / illustration
This publication had a lot of creative freedom, with the only brief relating to people and food. I created a publication that touched on the idea of puberty and then again narrowed down to the topic of hair growth. Aimed at both young teenagers and parental or educational figures to educate teenagers in a fun way and interactive way.
This project was set up in various stages; research, experimentation, documentation and designing. As I was writing and creating the content as well as designing, I had to make sure that all the information was completely accurate. The second step was experimenting with food and how this could relate to body hair, for example growing roots out of a sweet potato, to symbolise pubic hair growing. This is represented in the book through both illustration and photography with tracing paper revealing another layer in the growth of the hair. All the photographs and illustrations are drawn on real-life images and experimentations that I conducted and the text is written in the form of a recipe so that the reader can actually create these experiments as well.
The publication is hand bound with cotton string as a saddle stitch binding and printed as an experiment on watercolour paper as well as tracing paper.
